Smith & Daughters 1

Forget your preconceptions of vegan food. In Smith & Daughters: A Cookbook (That Happens to be Vegan) Shannon and Mo are here to challenge them all. Their aim is for people to experience delicious plant-based food the way it should be: big, bold, flavourful, noteworthy and celebration-worthy.

You know that feeling you get when you pick up a vegan cookbook - all those white-washed timbers, fig leaf plants creeping into the shot, and more linen on the author than on the table? This ain't that.

My first meeting with Shannon, Mo, and Callum was a revelation. It made me realise that my strength wasn't just in design, but in capturing the essence of people's stories and translating them into something visual. It was like painting with light, creating a vibe that practically jumped off the page.

Shoutout to Todd, the production manager, he once shared an experience of spending hours photoshopping out someone's gang tattoos from another book. It was a nightmare! So, during my meeting with the authors, trying to be proactive, I blurted out, "Do you have any gang tattoos we need to know about?" It was a stupid question, and they all laughed at me - rightfully so. But hey, it all worked out in the end. The book turned out great, tattoos and all.
