There’s a lot to write about this project. I watched Aaron live it in real-time, the ups and downs, like watching a movie before reading the book. The immensely talented Julian Kingma predominantly shot the chef for a year on film, capturing the first year of IGNI.

I’ve had many compliments on this title over the years and have seen it pop up as a design reference in a few design seminars.

IGNI uses a central fire in the kitchen to cook most of its food, so we wanted the book to look as though it had been pulled from the ashes - a concept that reflects Aaron’s story.

Fun fact: Editor Simon and I both had young children at the time, so we would stay up on the phone drinking wine and working on this project while rocking our babies.
